Tubeless tires can improve puncture protection, grip, and ride comfort, but the initial setup often seems to demand an air compressor. In reality, many road, gravel, and mountain bike combinations can be seated with a conventional floor pump if the rim tape, tire beads, and valve are prepared carefully.
The key is to create an airtight system before adding sealant. A tire that leaks through the rim, valve, or sidewall will waste every pump stroke, while a clean, correctly taped rim gives the tire a much better chance of inflating quickly.

Inspect the rim for sharp edges, dents, deep scratches, or damaged spoke holes. Tubeless rim tape must cover the entire spoke bed and rise slightly up both sides of the internal rim channel. If the tape is too narrow, poorly bonded, or wrinkled, air will escape beneath it.
Check that the rim diameter and tire size match exactly. A 700c tire belongs on a 700c rim, while a 29-inch mountain bike tire uses a 29-inch rim. Spin the wheel horizontally and vertically, then rotate it slowly so sealant reaches the bead area, sidewalls, and tread. Hold the wheel at several angles for a few seconds at a time. This coats small pores and pinholes that may otherwise continue to leak.
Listen for hissing around the valve, spoke holes, and bead. Small bubbles at the sidewall can be normal during the first few minutes, especially with porous gravel or mountain bike tires. Troubleshoot a Tire That Will Not Inflate
