How to Replace a Broken Derailleur Cable End Crimp

A derailleur cable end crimp is a small metal cap fitted over the cut end of an inner gear cable. If the end has unravelled, do not try to twist it back into a perfect bundle and hide it under a new cap. A frayed inner cable can catch inside the housing or slip unpredictably at the anchor bolt. Fitting And Securing The New Crimp

Slide the replacement cap over the clean cable end. Push it far enough to cover all visible strands, but leave it clear of the derailleur body and the moving parallelogram. The cap should sit on the cable itself, not against the pinch bolt, adjustment screw or jockey wheel cage.

Use pliers to make one firm squeeze across the cap. On a thin aluminium cap, a moderate crimp is enough; crushing it flat can cut into the cable and make future removal difficult.
